About Me

I graduated in 2009 from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design (University of Dundee) with a B/des (Hons) degree in Printed Textile Design. I went on to win a National Business innovation competition and further awards for enterprise. My core values are embedded in all that I do with inclusion, equity, creativity and community at the centre.

When I had my second child we were thrust into a world of disability and our lives became smaller, it became difficult to take part in society as systemic barriers meant that we couldn't access things on the same basis as everyone else. I changed my career, giving up my award-winning town centre business and chose to work part time in various front line Health and Social Care roles which enabled me to gain essential skills and obtain first hand research. This allowed me to quickly gain the skills and knowledge I needed to help my child while being paid. In doing so I became my own time and motion study while gaining and incredible skill set from immersing myself in the world of disability.

I have experienced care services from the inside out (as a professional) and outside in (as a carer). These 6 months + roles in each sector allowed the acquisition of experience and knowledge to position myself in a role via self employment where I can make a meaningful difference to help families like mine. I believe this fist hand lived experience has allowed a me to create a unique insight and multi perspective understanding of how systems and processes work across the sectors. This work has involved personal sacrifices, requiring self-belief to grow.

My creative thinking, social innovation, business, enterprise, design skills combined with lived experience and knowledge of front line service work and life as a parent carer of a profoundly disabled child has given me unique insight into some of the challenges faced across sectors. My business exists to help inspire change and help keep discussions on inclusion at the forefront of decision making, because how we treat people matters.
